I watched your Vlog that you expressed your experience as CODA that touch me! I think you are brave to share with others. I have met few CODA that seem same struggle as Deaf people. I do understand how you felt. wow I learned something what you explained about FAQ. Dont give up and continue education about CODA as well as Deaf people I agreed with you that long time to go to be awareness. Thank you for sharing!
Mark,
Yes I am on a mission to share my experiences so that Deaf, Coda and Hearing can all learn. Check me out on facebook as we are gearing up to do a Coda365 tour that helps promote awareness. Thanks for all your encouragement.
what is exactly a coda? i know it is a child of deaf adults but it never occurred to me to think it refers to only hearing children. what about a deaf child of deaf adults? if they are not identified as coda then what are they called? dcoda or just deaf? since I am a child of hearing adults, what do i call myself? hopefully i have not offended u nor tried your patience. thank you.
Well, the acronym for coda was created to define hearing children of deaf adults. For those that are deaf children/adults are identified as deaf individuals. It came out as a form of labeling to identify but really it means so many things. As a coda, I’m embracing my culture daily. However, I am a mother, daughter, wife and raising codas myself. My husband is Deaf. If one identifies with growing up as a hearing child with deaf parents, they are bound to have some identifying experiences. We all have our own journeys. Did that help?
